Guitar Repairs

El Segundo Guitars, LLC was founded in 2025 by Blake Jarrell and Chris Pietrangelo in Memphis, TN after they became Certified Guitar Repair Technicians under the tutelage of Barrett Culpepper, owner of Southeast Guitar Repair and Southeast Guitar Repair Academy (SEGR) near Atlanta, Georgia.  We learned from the best in the business as SEGR is one of the busiest guitar repair shops in America.

We built something different...so different, in fact, there isn't another guitar repair store like us in the Mid-South.

1. OUR NAME...it gets a lot of questions.  El Segundo means "The Second" in Spanish.  If you only own one guitar, or maybe you are a new player, our goal is to make you love your instrument so much you will want a "second" one.  We do that by setting it up to play and feel the way you want it.  If you are a seasoned player who owns multiple guitars, you already know want you want in its tone and feel, and we set it up to your very, very exciting specs.

2. OUR EXPERTISE...our certificates are on the wall.  We only perform high quality work.  That is true if you bring us your first guitar you just got for Christmas (we have ours and still play them) or a very expensive Fender from the Custom Shop.  Every customer gets our full expertise.  We stay connected to SEGR and the luthier community, and we have a range of experts with whom we consult and trade notes with often.  Our setups are the best in the business, price competitive, follow a detailed check list, and include a new set of high quality D'Addario strings, or you can bring your own.  We also perform complex repairs like Les Paul headstock breaks, neck resets, re-frets, etc.  This isn't just what we do, it's who we are.

3. OUR LOCATION...We have plenty of space and benches to stage multiple repairs which gives us the ability to turn around work more quickly than a small shop.  We also don't sell guitars, so our lobby has comfortable seating if you want to wait for a re-string or setup.  We like to take time to get to know you, learn what is important to you in terms of the settings and sound of your instrument, then make your vision come to life.  We are up front with the costs when you need a repair, give you options if it is something that can wait, and provide you with a free estimate so you can make an informed decision that is best for you.

4. OUR SPEED...restrings, setups, servicing, and instrument repairs are all we do.  We are open Tues - Sat, 10 A.M. to 6:00 P.M., but we spend a lot of time after hours making sure our turn around time is the best, period.  That doesn't mean we skimp on quality.  If an instrument needs major surgery, it is going to be with us a minute until it is out of ICU, past recovery, and through rehab.  Glue takes time to dry, matching stains on repairs is an art that takes multiple passes sometimes.  But we own the business which means we can work as late as we want to, and we even open up after hours when our recording or performing artists friends are in town and run into a guitar problem.

5.  OUR COMMITMENT TO MUSICIANS...Memphis is home to some of the greatest music ever made.  We believe in Memphis music and Memphis musicians.  We always offer student discounts, support music-related philanthropies, and happily promote Memphis talent on our social media pages, even if they don't spend a dime with us.

Drop in to see us any time.  It's a cool shop.  You can sit and noodle on some of our guitars while we work.  We would like that.

Until then, Play It Smooth. â€‹â€‹
