OUR NAME....

We get asked about the name a lot.

El Segundo means “The Second” in Spanish. If you own just one guitar—or maybe you’re a new player—our goal is to make you love your instrument so much that you’ll want a second one. We do that by setting it up to play, feel and respond the way you want it to.

If you’re a seasoned player with a collection of guitars, you already know exactly what you want from an instrument—its tone, feel, action and response. We’ll dial it in to your exacting specifications.

Whether it’s your first guitar, your fifth or your fiftieth, we want it to feel like the one you reach for first.

El Segundo Guitars, LLC was founded in 2025 in Memphis, Tennessee, with a simple goal: bring a different kind of guitar repair experience to the Mid-South.

Our foundation was built through professional training at Southeast Guitar Repair Academy (SEGR) near Atlanta, Georgia, under the tutelage of Barrett Culpepper, owner of Southeast Guitar Repair and one of the busiest guitar repair shops in the country. That training provided the technical foundation, discipline and attention to detail we bring to every instrument that comes through our doors.

But we didn't set out to build just another guitar repair shop.

We built something different—so different, in fact, that there isn't another guitar repair store quite like El Segundo Guitars in the Mid-South.

02

OUR EXPERTISE...

Our certificates are on the wall, but the real proof is in the work.

Whether you bring us the first guitar you got for Christmas—we still have ours and still play them—or a prized instrument from the Fender Custom Shop, it gets the same level of care, attention and expertise.

We stay connected with Southeast Guitar Repair and the broader luthier community, regularly consulting with other experienced technicians, sharing knowledge and continuing to refine our craft.

Our setups follow a detailed checklist and are tailored to the player and the instrument—not a one-size-fits-all formula.

Every standard setup includes a fresh set of quality D’Addario strings, or you’re welcome to bring your preferred set.

And we go well beyond setups. We handle complex repairs including Les Paul headstock breaks, neck resets, fretwork, refrets and more.

To us, guitar repair isn’t simply a service we provide. It’s our craft, our obsession and a big part of who we are.

03

OUR LOCATION...

We have plenty of space and benches to stage multiple repairs which gives  us the ability to turn around work more quickly than a small shop.  We  also don't sell guitars, so our lobby has comfortable seating if you  want to wait for a re-string or setup.  We like to take time to get to  know you, learn what is important to you in terms of the settings and  sound of your instrument, then make your vision come to life.  We are up front with the costs when you need a repair, give you options if it is  something that can wait, and provide you with a free estimate so you can make an informed decision that is best for you.

04

OUR SPEED...

Restrings, setups, servicing and instrument repairs aren’t just part of what we do—they’re what we do.

We’re open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., but the work doesn’t always stop when the doors close. We put in the extra hours when needed to keep our turnaround times as short as possible without ever sacrificing the quality of the work.

Some repairs simply can’t be rushed. If an instrument needs major surgery, it may be with us for a while until it’s out of the ICU, through recovery and ready to get back onstage. Glue needs time to cure. Finish and stain matching can require multiple passes. Great repair work takes patience, and we give each instrument the time it needs.

The advantage of being an independent shop is flexibility. When the job calls for a late night, we can work late. And when a touring, performing or recording artist runs into an unexpected guitar problem while they’re in town, we’ve even opened the shop after hours to help get them back up and running.

05

OUR COMMITMENT TO MUSICIANS...

Memphis is home to some of the greatest music ever made, and we believe in supporting the musicians who are making it today.

We offer student discounts, support music-related charities and organizations, and love using our social media pages to promote Memphis artists—even if they’ve never spent a dime with us. Supporting the local music community is simply part of who we are.

And if you’re nearby, drop in and see us. It’s a cool little shop. Pull up a chair, grab one of our guitars and noodle around while we work.

We’d like that.

Until then, Play It Smooth.

Play It Smooth.

Whether you need a restring, a full setup, routine maintenance, a repair, or a custom installation of pickups, bridges, tuners and other components, your instrument is in trained hands.

We are Certified Guitar Repair Technicians with specialized training in guitar service and repair, and we’re proud to be an authorized D’Addario dealer.

From the way it plays to the way it sounds, you’ll hear and feel the difference.

Frequently Asked Questions.

Do you warranty your work?

Absolutely!  If we perform a setup on your instrument, and it needs tweaking after being in different temperature settings, humidity, or on the road, bring it back in within 30 days and we will adjust for you at no charge without you having to put in back in the queue.   We also guarantee all of our work for craftsmanship and the quality of the repair.  For example, if we re-wired your electronics and something happens to come unsoldered (rare), we will fix it at no charge.  We want you happy with our work, and we want long-term customers.

How long will it take to fix my instrument?

We work on a "first in, first out" basis, so we handle instruments in the order they arrive. We'll give you an estimated completion time when you drop off your instrument, but just know  we pride ourselves on having better turnaround times than any of our competitors. If you're a pro with a tight deadline, ask us about our rush priority program for a quicker turnaround (for a fee).

Do I need to pay upfront for repairs?

For standard services like setups, string changes, or wiring repairs, no upfront payment is needed. For more expensive repairs, like fret replacements or neck re-sets, we usually ask for a down payment. We're as flexible as possible.

Can you fix other stringed instruments too?

Absolutely! We handle all stringed instruments, including banjos, violins, and even mountain dulcimers. Blake, our bluegrass enthusiast, especially loves working on these!

El Segundo Guitars, LLC, a leading handcrafted guitar repair shop, was founded in 2025 by Blake Jarrell and Chris Pietrangelo in Memphis, TN, after they became Certified Guitar Repair Technicians under the tutelage of Barrett Culpepper, owner of Southeast Guitar Repair and Southeast Guitar Repair Academy (SEGR) near Atlanta, Georgia.

We learned from the best guitar luthiers in the business, as SEGR is one of the busiest guitar repair shops in Memphis, Tennessee.

We built something different...so different, in fact, there isn't another guitar repair store like us in the Mid-South.

If your guitar feels uncomfortable to play or just doesn’t sound right, it may be time for a professional setup. At El Segundo Guitars, LLC, we help musicians restore balance, tone, and playability to their instruments. High string action, persistent buzz, tuning instability, or a dull sound often result from seasonal climate shifts, normal wear, or factory settings that were never properly adjusted.

Even premium guitars need maintenance and guitar repair to perform at their best. Our detailed setup process fine-tunes neck relief, action, and intonation so your guitar plays smoothly, sounds vibrant, and feels inspiring every time you pick it up.
